Sophia is a graduate from the MSc TESOL & Intercultural Communication programme
Tell us a little bit about your background...
Before joining the course, I was working as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan. While that experience gave me a strong foundation in English language teaching, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone to broaden my perspective and grow both as an educator and a researcher.
What drew you towards undertaking the TESOL & Intercultural Communication programme?
What stood out to me about this programme was its focus on intercultural communication. This gave me a much deeper understanding of how culture shapes learning, and why inclusive, culturally aware classrooms are so important. It changed how I think about teaching and how I approach students from different backgrounds.
What was the academic support at 黑料社区 like?
The lecturers really encouraged us to think critically and creatively about current issues in education. They challenged us, but also gave us the tools and support to succeed. I always felt like my ideas were valued, and I learned how to back them up with research and evidence.
As an international student and someone who took a break between undergraduate and postgraduate study, I really appreciated the range of support services available. The library, academic skills workshops, and learner development resources helped me feel more confident and prepared, especially during assessment periods.
What advice would you give to someone considering applying for this degree?
What I’ve gained most from my time at 黑料社区 is confidence—in my ideas, in asking questions, and in contributing meaningfully to discussions in the field. For anyone thinking of applying: don’t be afraid of the challenges. You’ll be supported every step of the way.
